@mengyl She seems to be icelandic. But her pronunciation is quite ok for german ears. But I wonder what she's doing now, no new recordings since April 2008?

The melody is from Schubert.
The lyrics are a very, very, very famous poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
This one is very good, but look out for the Helen Schneider Version from 1978.
