This is from the first time they took camcorders up in a space shuttle. Excellent video quality compared to the traditional closed-circuit tv they had shown. This is from STS-30 in May 1989 on Atlantis. Mark Lee is shooting and narrating. Astronaut G. David Low is the Capcom. A tour of the crew cabin.

  • For a long time, well into the Shuttle period, NASA continued to use the sequential color system based on the rejected CBS color system of the 1950s. It produced the color breakup often seen on moving objects. It made sense to use this system back in the Apollo days, but not after cheap color CCD cameras became available. It took NASA a long time to make the switch.

  • R.I.P. G. David Low (died March 15th 2008)
