Is this the original version as i always thought the american actor Robert Conrad sang this.

Written in 1958 by Frank McNulty , recorded in 1959 by Col , Sonny williams & Teresa Brewer . Col's was the most sucessful version . I think Robert Conrad started in showbiz in the early 60s.
