My second Liverpool Cathedral video: the first was one of the first videos I uploaded to YouTube, and it is still there on my channel. And it is rubbish! So here's a much better one from the end of June 2010, when some ringers from the Chesterfield area went on an outing that finished at the Cathedral.
Liverpool Cathedral is big. Absolutely huge. This video does not do it justice: you have to go and see it for yourself, even if you aren't a ringer it is amazing. It is the only church with lifts built in to go up the tower, and the lifts are very fast, almost teleports! Or is that just how I've edited it...?
The tower contains the heaviest bells hung for full-circle (normal) ringing, the tenor (heaviest) weighing in at 82cwt (or just over 4 tonnes). The tone of the bells is such that it makes it incredibly difficult to hear individual bells, though it can be done.
Part two is coming soon, so make sure you don't miss out on the Belfry and the Roof by subscribing!

  • It is worth noting that Giles Gilbert Scott's other iconic design - on a totally different scale - is visible at 2.10!

  • @Aerozine50 I don't think so...

  • what bum?....LOL

  • @simonbellringer It's nothing to do with the tone of the bells. It's the size of the ringing chamber, intermediate chamber and belfry which does it.

  • The tone of the bells is such that it makes it incredibly difficult to hear individual bells:

    TOTALLY AGREED!!

    Great Video!!! :)

  • This was the last place I ran before emigrating to Sydney in 1972. Would like to go back and ring there again.

Both you videos are an excellent compliation of the church the ringing room and the bells plus the view from the roof. It probably the best sound recording I have heard on you tube. I would love to hear what these bells sound like in a decent tower like York Minster or if they fixed up the terrible accoustics in the tower.

    Lovely Whitechapel heaviest 12 ever.

  • Nice pic of Len's right moob at 3:31

  • @LottieBTS Got a couple busses to test the theory? lol

Whats your opinion on the tone of these bells anyway?

  • @SrWilson3s hmm, one would be enough i think!
