In malta they are still going strong

@craploginsystem Erm...this truck wasn't fitted with a Rockwell, It had a Leyland hub reduction rear axle. The famous Roadtrain whine came from the prop shaft knuckle joint as the speed approached 60mph : )

T 45 Rolls Royce lovey sound of that engine! Drove Roadtrains since 1982 to 1989. T45 rolls royce only came in 1987. They all had the spicer gearbox lovey truck. Went to Volvo from 89 to persent.Drove a ERF with a Eaton twin splitter back in 1994! "What a load of shit that gearbox was." The eaton twin splitter is shit.

@craploginsystem yes, I remember that well- they would announce their presence once they got to 60mph

My father had a T45 in 1989 with the Rolls Royce engine, great truck.
-
best truck i ever had mine was a 1985 b reg with 290 rolls 10 speed spicer box went like a train 70 allday long
-
i love em flying the flag for great britain was a pleasure in one of these if you had one of these with a 350 cummins in it ,it would keep up with any truck of the same horsepower in its day i only have fond memories us british have never been any good at standing together post war sad
Why were they hated? Just cause they were british?

@discocreator76 Not everybody hated em. I thought they were a great truck...that's why I bought two of them. I've heard countless drivers moan about them and their reliability issues. The standard joke of the time used to be "leave by Road, come back by Train." The only problems I encountered with THIS truck were...flywheel ring gear and oil leaking from the air compressor...It didn't even overheat : )

I liked these. Learnt to drive in one- 265 rolls with a spicer crash box. pre-limiter so it used to motor on a bit. Given the choice I'd still work one now

@mrspivvy Know what you mean although the Spicer box could be a bit 'unforgiving'. I prefered the Twin Splitter even though it was quite rightly nicknamed "The box of a thousand neutrals" : )
