I met Jack Kirk when I was probably 3 years old. His property in Mariposa abutted my grandparents property. We considered him part of our family. He was considered an old curmudgeon by many, but to our family, he was a dear friend. Every Thanksgiving Jack sat at our table. He taught me about trees, flowers, and birds. He told me once that he ran with his arms, not his legs. He was one of my favorite friends growing up, and I'll never forget him. Karen Haley
My sister and I have known Jack since we were kids. We always got to the race early so we could give Jack fruit from our garden. He loved our blackberries. It's sad to start the race without out him. It just isn't the same.
