Boxster S: Chasing a Mazdaspeed 3

This video is from Nord Stern's (Porsche Club) Last Fling DE at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, MN the weekend of Sept. 29 & 30, 2007.

Video was taken from a stock 2000 Porsche Boxster S on Bridgestone RE-01 street tires.

The 2007 Mazda Mazdaspeed3 is being driven by a good friend of mine. It has upgraded suspension, intake, and exhaust. It's also running on street tires.

wow impressive, for both cars and drivers. is it just me, or does the porsche have a faster corner exit speed?

Generally speaking, the Boxster S did have higher exit speeds and can break deeper into the turns. Actually, my lap times were about 3 sec. faster than the MS3 (2:03:357 @ 87.550mph avg v. 2:06:403 @ 85.441mph avg).

really great videos, good camera possition, etc. The MS3 sure pulls hard on the st8's! Question, was that a Cayman in the begining of the vid? and if so what happened to it? I thought those things were supposed to be track monsters?

Not obvious but the track was still a little damp from rain throughout the day. Main straight is also used by NHRA drags and INCREDIBLY slippery when wet. I didn't fully track-out there for this reason. Also, strong winds in T1 (end main straight) and T2 were a bit unsettling and kept speeds down some.

My lap times are ~3 sec. quicker than the MS3. On dry, I don't think it pulls as hard in the straights but I can't run on it either. Make no mistake, the MS3 is a very impressive car.

the mazdaspeed 3 has repro?... or only intake, exhaust and suspension.... i want to buy my first car.. i don´t know which to choose, 2008 vw gti mk5 dsg or manual... 2008 mazdaspeed 3 stock .... 2009 audi a3 1.8 tfsi with apr stage2 (238 whp) DSG 7... bmw e46 330ci stock... bora 2.0 tsi.... cupra 2.0 241hp 2009.... thanks and sorry for my english it´s not good....

i think the vw gti dsg is the best option becouse dsg is comfortable...but i love manual T...

This is a cool video for me. I love the Boxster S but couldn't find one at a reasonable price so I went with a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. Both are bitchen cars to drive and great performers.

I wonder when the first serious redesign of the Boxster will happen. It's gotta be soon.......

Your racing lines are better than his... he's waiting too long to turn and then jerks it into the turn. Maybe he's doing that to try to fling the rear end around, but with FWD its just not going to work and I think this makes his exit slower than it could be.

I think if you drove your friend's MS3 you'd get faster times than you did in your Boxter.

@KittyKranker Do what I did and buy an e30 :) Keep the ms3 and spend a couple grand on an e30, they are rwd, excellent weight displacement, and have that handling like a european sports car.

Guy in the Porsche looked like a better driver but I would take ms3 > Boxster, all that practicality then putting down those kinds of laps at the track is damn impressive to me.

So were you trying to catch/pass the MS3, or was this vid to film him? Just curious cuz I own a bone stock 2010 MS3. It's cool to think I could track it and potentially not look stupid.

So cool! This shows that with a few mods, the ms3 can run with some serious sports cars - it's a great bargain.  Still, if I had the $, I'd buy a Porsche.
