This video compares clips recorded simultaneously with the Sony Bloggie, MHS-CM5, and the Kodak Playsport, Zx3 under HIGH CONTRAST SITUATION.

Most of the Sony clips have been enhanced to improve contrast by increasing it in Corel VideoStudio Pro. This is so noted on each clip where it has been done. The Playsport is the standard because it's picture quality is, overall, superior to any compact video camera (the only types I've tested). The Sony cam approaches the Kodak quality and is entirely acceptable. The color balance on the two is practically identical.

Both cameras were mounted on the same bracket. Both cameras were recording at 1080p, 30 fps. Coincidentally, the field of view for the two is essentially the same.

FILE SIZE: FOR 1 MIN: Sony = 58.6 mb (10,489 kbps); Kodak = 68.8 mb (12,043 kbps). So, there's not much difference in bitrate/file size.

The Kodak has more contrast and seems sharper, which is okay except for high-contrast scenes where the dark regions lose detail. Conclusion: Image is better on the Kodak.

The Sony mic produces a higher recorded volume, and seems less affected by the wind. Conclusion: Audio is better on the Sony.

The Kodak is waterproof and seemingly more rugged.

The Sony has a rotating lens which would be better for shooting over a crowd or candid shots of unsuspecting subjects.

The Kodak has a 5 mp, 1/2.3" sensor. The Sony, a slightly smaller, 5 mp, 1/2.5" sensor.

The Sony has a self timer for 10 sec and 2 sec, the Kodak none.

The choice comes down to choosing the features you prefer and the price point. I bought the Sony Bloggie refurbished by Sony for $57. (I think it is discontinued.) The Kodak PlaySport is available new for around $110.

I will use the Kodak Playsport more than the Sony Bloggie because I use it while kayaking and waterproofness is a good feature. But, I'm eager to try the rotating lens of the Bloggie. And the Bloggie is an even smaller camera than the Playsport.
