My granny's uncle fought in Salonika in 1915-18. He spent his time being bombed, shot and treated in hospital. He survived but the influenza got him in October.
This song is deceptively upbeat. RIP

Ronnie:
We miss you; however, thank Christ we still have your music !

Roonie had a unique voice. I've always liked his graveled voice. He could belt out a tune better than most. Kelly was also unique. The two, as well as the Dubs, were impossible to beat.

I always listened to the vanguard, The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. I finally lsistened to the Dubliners, Luke Kelly and Ronnie Drew who are impossible to beat. I'm sorry that they passed on; however, GOD BLESS, we have their music !
this song talks about my hometown,Salonika ! I'm so happily surprised !

Someone, a writer, I don't know his name (sorry for that!), compared Ronnie's voice as "The sound of a coke being crushed under a door". Ronnie, also, said about his voice "whether it's a blessing or a curse, but I've been getting away with it for a long time now". LONG LIVE THE DUBLINERS!
