Sugar Sugar works Ca during the 2008 Field Day from Duwamish Head Park in West Seattle. We worked 17 states using 5 watts or less in a casual 3 hour effort. Field day is a yearly event in which hams practice operating under emergency conditions using battery power and temporary antennas.

  • Greetings. Two questions. Were you using the Yaesu 817 or 857? I assume it was the 817 since you were saying you were using only 5 Watts or less--- just wanted to know for sure. Also, what was your antenna this field day? Nice video. 73 from AI4QT in Huntsville AL.

  • On SSB, we used the FT-857D, cranked down to 5 watts... the antenna was a "sloper": that is a dipole with one (hot) end at 30 ft and the other at about 6 ft. It is shown in another video in this playlist. We decided to do FD the night before and set up in about a half hour...a very casual but fun 3 hr operation -

  • Too bad that w3ao barely left enough time for a reply in between his CQ's... Not bad for 2 watts though...

  • "Roger Dodger"? ;)
