Better Chinese's heart and soul, Yu Lao Shi, talks about My First Chinese Words series. This series was adopted by Hanban (hanban.org) as the Best Chinese as a Foreign Language program and also has been reviewed and adopted by several departments of education in the US, including Utah.

My First Chinese Words are child-sized readers meant to be used as storybooks for the very young learners. Why stories? Students innately love stories because they are fun and enticing. Children learn by trying to make sense of the world around them. They are, in nature, curious and thus it is important for us, as educators, to make the things that we teach them meaningful and relevant to their everyday lives. Story-based curriculum is also the best way for children to develop literary skills, phonetic awareness, as well as provide a cultural context for learning Chinese.
