ANY computer with a fast enough CPU (Mac, Windows, or Linux) can display 1080p content. The only catch is that if you want to view 1080p at full resolution, you need a monitor with at least 1920x1080 native resolution.
And yes, the Mac mini is more than capable of displaying 1080p content.

I have a huge high end media center.
It would be wasted on Internet streaming media.
Only way to fully enjoy its full potential (video/audio) is with blu-ray.
-
Blu-ray averages is about 25 mbps 1080p.
Internet media streaming is only about 5mbps 1080p.
In another words if we want high quality video/audio we still need physical media.

@articsnow The new mini now has HDMI

Hard disk media comes from the Internet.
Internet HD is crappy 1080i at only 5mbps.
Blu-ray is 1080p and 25 to 30 mbps.
Its far superior in quality to Internet streaming.
As for MRBIT10, he is talking about over bloated MPEG4 files, not AVCHD files.
Apple has to give into AVCHD because all HD camcorders are AVCHD and Apple will have to give in to Blu-ray because there is nothing that comes close to the experience of a Blu-ray, certainly not Internet streaming.

You can use SwitchResX to specify a custom resolution (ie 1360x768, 1920x1080).

I was wondering if I could connect a mac mini to a tv using a Mini Display port to HDMI adapter and then plugging in a HDMI cable then plug in some 3.5mm speakers would the screen be on the TV and the audio come from the speakers
