Interesting movie, but really bad translation...

Thanks for posting Marcel L'Herbier's masterpiece. This is one of the best silent films, whose cost over-runs and ill-starred release during the transition to sound doomed it to flop at the box office. The great irony is that this adaptation of the Zola novel anticipated the world financial collapse a year later. (Saccard is the Gordon Gecko of silent cinema!) Great cast, and deliriously mobile camera-work. A director's picture through and through, by one of the great French auteurs.

An excellent movie about greed and lust. Print quality and cinematography very good. Also look for the great early aviation shots in the second segment. Thanks for posting.
