I apologise. I misunderstood your comment but perhaps the cowardice you speak of is not just of men but of mankind. Most people fear being left alone and will often try to salvage a relationship that is no longer possible. This is just an opinion.

In my reply to your previous comment i meant 'sex' as 'the gender'. My idea is that there are both men and women, who would rather be unhappy than be alone.

Yea its not sex. Its companionship. The "man" would rather be unhappy than be alone.

i, personally, don't think being afraid of being alone is a matter of sex; i think it is a human fear, no human wants to be alone, a man or a woman can beg 'don't leave me', even though it is over. To me, it is a beautiful, deeply touching song about love ♡

    ♡ Paul, je t'aime. Je t'aimais, je t'aime et je t'aimerai . Ne me quitte pas.♡

I'm not saying Jacques Brel is a coward. I'm saying he wrote this song about the cowardice of men. i.e. They are afraid of being alone. So will beg to stay in a relationship even though it is over.
