@marcxopoco Of all the fighters in history who had long layoffs and came back, Zale's comeback was one of the most impressive. A Zale vs Lamotta bout just wasn't a profitable venture from '46-'48, in no way did Zale duck anybody.
Zale was one of the middleweights hardest hitters and possesed some defense - unlike his nemisis, Rocky. He's in my top five middles - I think he, and his body attack, punching power and chin would chase guys like Hagler and Hearns out of the ring.
Zale is one of the all time great middleweights. Heart, punching power, body attack, and a decent defense put hin in my top five. I think he could have taken Cerdan - a great fighter, too - if not for the age and three wars with Rocky.
I got to meet Tony in Gary in the 60's, he was one of my fathers good friends and when we visited he had gifts for me and my brother. He signed out autograph books and we had a nice visit.
Zale should have defended His title against Jake Lamotta(I wonder if He was ducking Him). That would have been a hell of a fight. I think Lamotta would have outworked Him and won a 15 round decision.
Tony Zale was the best body puncher in boxing history.

@MrTennesseeVols time sense is cockeyed.
Tony Zale won the middleweight title in the year 1940.
Jake LaMotta HAD HIS FIRST PRO FIGHT in 1941.
Zale fought lightheavyweight champion Billy Conn in 1942 and then went away for WWII for FOUR years, returing in 1946..
When ZALE came back in 1946 Rocky Graziano was the #1 challenger. They fought three times. Then Zale defended against #1 challenger Marcel Cerdan.
Your comment that Zale "ducked" anyone is CRAP.

I second that. That man had some of the best body attacks that I've ever seen.
