The SP #4449 Experience: Cross Country Steam Excursion. 7-18-09.

Here's the moment we and many other railfans have been waiting for today. The Southern Pacific GS-4 Northern Steamer makes a rare trip from Portland, OR to Owosso MI for Steam Fest. You would expect this special train to take UP trackage, but it was found to be more convienient for it to take the BNSF Chicago Subdivision into LaGrange, where it would connect to the IHB to the NS, which would lead to Michigan City. Here Me, Larry, Andrew, Colin, Matt, Max and Dan caught it West of Downers Grove Main Street on the Chicago Subdivision. A very historic day for railfans everywhere.

Ahhh after watching the pre-4449 vid last night I was HOPING you'd shoot it from this spot. Where were you, just chillin' on one of those stacks of ties? But yea good job dude, so far you're the only one on here who I"ve seen shooting the daylight with a tripod, all the other vids have been shaky as shit.

Where did this train connect from the BNSF to the IHB? Did it back off the BNSF main down onto the IHB southbound at LaGrange? I live two blocks from the IHB tracks in Chicago Ridge and had no idea this train came through.

Apprerently to most Railfan's here, the word " tripod " isnt in the dictonary.. If theres nothing more that i hate is how people put " MUST SEE!! " Yet, it may be a " must see " is ruined when they go nuts and shake the camera up and all over.. Well Done Video Frank, you really brought out the true beauty of 4449 even in just this one shot
