Abolish the Debt Ceiling and Restore Tax Fairness to American Families

Congressman Nadler argues for a repeal of the debt limit and for a return to policies that strengthen the economy and put jobless Americans back to work. What was for decades a harmless eccentricity of the budgetary process, the debt limit has turned into a cudgel used by Republicans to blackmail the entire country in order to protect billionaires and big corporations. At the same time, said Nadler, we have a tax system that allows millionaires and the companies they run to pay taxes at a lower rate than middle class families. This fundamental unfairness is not only un-American, it is also a leading cause of our long-term debt problem.
