What a superficial hyperbolic heap of sensationalistic soundbites, masquerading as a documentary!
What will we see as an encore?
The Boy Scouts: Secret Radical Jihadist Cult!
The Girl Scouts: Baked ‘til it hurts...follow the dough!

We were excited to see Up with People featured in the Rose Parade in 2008, because my wife and I were involved with the Up with People cast of Sing Out St.Petersburg in St. Petersburg, Florida while I was stationed at MacDill AFB from 1965 - 1968. After all these years we still remember the lyrics of the Up with People songs and they are as timely now as they were then.

I have interviewed too many people to remember. But I have had the pleasure of interviewing the Director myself. She is very well versed about the finest of details. She is very personable and humble. Sometimes we should all reflect of what this movie is about and the value of excellent research.
Kudos to the Director and the brilliancy of this documentary.

Someone actually believes that this organization served any part in averting a third world war? Man. Oh. Man.

I saw Up With People in 1988, and it was a very enjoyable show. I don't think they were a cult at all. They were a positive force for good. It's a shame people have to muckrake like this and look for negative.

from anywhere else to promote or assist the up with people organization. Up with people was a fine organization and group of young people doing fine things for themselves their communities and the country. . I was a member of 2 local groups for 3 years and it was very different from how it is being portrayed in theis socalled documentary video

As to the last part of the trailer about homosexuals ... do I brag about being hetero? do I talk about my sex life? hmmm Sexual orientation color religion are not important - that's the point!
Proud to have been Cast B 99.
Though I do admit I felt a bit brain/emotion/psyche/physicall
y washed :p -
How embarrassing for the interviewer. 'Of course gays were attracted to Up With People, it was all about singing and dancing and being happy." Does she not believe that a gay person might be attracted to it for the opportunity to travel, be of service, meet diverse people, gain job skills, learn about different cultures? My casts included a variety of political, sexual, and religious preferences; I gained a broader perspective. Perhaps the interviewer should consider a year in UWP for herself.
Can't wait to get this. I am a proud alumni (Cast A, 83)

I'm excited to see this movie! I worked on three sides of UWP: student, staff, and sponsor, and the experience was as astounding as the opportunities it has opened to me since.
It will be great if the movie achieves a well rounded perspective on the history of this organization ("let others decide" as L2PSandK says). The edits in the preview seem to cast a post-9/11 cynical revision on some of what was happening, but hopefully the full film will flesh things out!
