"It Is Well with My Soul" (Spafford-Bliss) - arranged and performed by The Rice Brothers (Chris, cello, age 20; Johnny, piano, age 23).

The story behind this hymn is deeply moving! If you haven't heard the story... In 1873, Horatio Spafford had planned to travel to Europe with his family. He was delayed by events related to the Great Chicago Fire. He sent his family on ahead, planning to join them as soon as possible. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship carrying his family sank, and all four of his daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the (now well-known) horrifying telegram, "Saved alone." Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, and, as his ship passed near where his daughters had died, he was inspired to write the hymn, "It Is Well with My Soul." (Spafford wrote the words; Philip Bliss wrote the music.)

We dedicate our arrangement of "It Is Well with My Soul" to all of those who have served in the United States Coast Guard (and in particular to our respected friend Jack Bentley, in appreciation for his long-time Coast Guard service), and to all others who, by God's Grace, have, at risk to themselves, stood between "us humans" and the perils of the sea.
