Interesting. There are no modifications on my shofar. I'm a purest. I didn't want to take away the challenge of playing the shofar in a way it wasn't supposed to be able to play. Your shofar sounds interesting and I haven't even heard it. Do you have any recordings?

@loffski How do you get to play a scale on the shofar? I accually bought a small one but i just can't figure out how to make songs on it.

@1812over2 - first step is knowing if you have a shofar that is playable.

@1pimp4history - you need to find out if you have a good shofar. not all shofars are playable. find someone who can blow shofar, let them try yours. they can tell you if yours is good. once you know you have a good shofar then you can start learning how to play it. If you have a camera for your computer I can give you a lesson online.

@loffski I've been reasearching the shofar lately and listening to it and I must say that you have the most incredible tonality and skill that I have seen yet! How much of that pitch change was from moving your hand? Do you play any other instruments or horns?

Keep practising, its worth it to develop strength and stamina in the diaphragm and lip. Mine would often bust open at first (lip that is, not diaphragm; in fact it still does sometimes if I over do things) I think a good blast comes right out of your belly. LOL sometimes I can get NO sound at all from my various shofars....

Check out my kudu wet-sanding and polishing videos. I used grinder/sanding disc, scraper and emory papers, then buffed with metal polish...

@goldsmithexile My ram's horn has a great tone. Sadly I am such a novice. But at times when I am well rested it seems to really do well for me. After watching this I would be ashamed to even put up a video. I should take some photos. It has no splits. The outside layer was weathered and had streaks of what looked like paint and even animal dung embedded. Also it had deep checks and weathering look. I have removed all that and am busily polishing it to complete the shine. I will also measure it.
