Barcelona and Argentine superstar striker Lionel Messi added to his legend on Saturday, when Argentina took on the United States in a friendly match in the New Meadowlands in New Jersey.
It wasn't what Messi did in the game that added to his greatness (although he was fantastic in repeatedly torching the American defense); rather, it was a ridiculous trick shot during warmups that has football fans the world over gushing.
Messi was practicing his free kicks from just outside the penalty area prior to the game, with a second ball set up just inside the goal box.
The sublime striker delivered a punishing strike and his shot glanced off the second ball, propelling it past the keeper.
Meanwhile, his initial offering popped into the air and soared to the opposite side of the goal, rippling the back of the net on the opposite side.
We've all seen soccer players take trick shots before, but this one was fantastic, particularly because no one's really sure whether he meant to do it or not.
If he didn't, it's still spectacular, but if he did and pulled it off on one try, that's even more impressive.
Many players have scored multiple goals in a match, but it takes real skill to accomplish the feat on a single shot.
While Messi was stellar in the match on Saturday, the Argentines couldn't escape the Meadowlands with a win, as the U.S. rallied for a 1-1 draw.
