Im re-posting this truly charming performance from the Dinah Shore Show.
It was broadcast on 8th March 1959 and shows Alexandra Danilova paired with Tony Randall in a piece reminiscent of Gaite Parisienne, a Viennese waltz, the Can Can, and 'Le Beau Danube'!
The plot involves a poor French flower seller . Say no more!
The footage is wonderful as we see Madame Danilova in up close and so are able to fully appreciate her expressive power.
She is so sweet and touching and funny - but doesn't push it out proportion into something over-blown.
And her large expansive phrasing seems held back ever so slightly to fix your anticipation.
hi Qbendanny - i really loved your story about tony randall - very tony randall, in the best possible way
i like the footage here so much cos it captures close-ish up something of what i imagine was the dazzle and zest of Madame Danilova's performances
best, nick

LOVE this post Nick. I was at a Gala performance of the NY International Ballet Competition in 1993. Igor Youskevitch was it's president (also I studied with him) Tony Randall and Madame Danilova were regulars. Drinking champagne with them Danilova asked Tony."Tony Vat you wuld like to come back as in next life?"
TONY: "IGOR YOUSKEVITCH!!!"
