"This movie was made for all the people in this room tonight." That we're even privy to such a nuanced exchange rooted in backstroy makes me excited for I WANT TO BELIEVE. Samantha was a throw-away line in FIGHT THE FUTURE so as to not confuse the "new" audience (depsite her disappearance being the impetus for the whole series), and here Mulder and Scully are confronting feelings over Samantha's death, something we were never even treated to in the series. Impressive.
