You know, I'm an atheist... but still, this scene sends shivers down my spine. Pale Blue Dot, indeed.

@Entei2000 One name, Nixon. The bloody fool couldn't see beyond his own nose. If JFK had lived we might have already landed on Mars by now.

I was 10 years old when Apollo 8 made that amazing journey around the moon. We had followed the build up of Apollo at school thanks to our science teacher and when I realised that they were about to break free of earth orbit for the first time it blew my mind, and still does when I think about it to this day. I felt truly lucky to be alive at that time and to experience the whole thing; more's the pity it hasn't continued.

Why they cancel Apollo 18,19,20? Jim will have gone back and landed on the Moon!

In 1998, I had the pleasure of attending a premier of this series at the Reuben H. Fleet Space Center in Balboa Park (San Diego) where they showed this episode. In attendance, as well as the author of the book the series was based upon, were former astronauts Walter M. Schirra and Buzz Aldrin. I was able to meet, interview and photograph both men. It was one of the greatest honors of my life.

I love this part!!
Apollo 8 Earthrise!...For me, the most memorable moment of this remarkable television masterpiece. The dramatic music suited the moment perfectly as well.
I was only a child in '68, but I can tell whover will listen that this sort of achievement lights a fire in the human soul, it lifts our spirits and inspires us to greatness. It restores goodwill among men....
