A friend of mine has been trying to eliminate his gay accent that sort of automatically developed once he hit puberty. I DO think that some can't help forming the accent. To this day, he hates that accent and has actively trained himself NOT to have it, but it takes effort every time he speaks. Some adopt it, some have it and exaggerate it, but some have it and don't want it. It is a very interesting phenomena, something I'm sure phonologists are very interested in.

@EricaPike1 as far as I'm aware, there is probably no research on the subject. Considering that it developed with his puberty its probably has something to do with the formation of his vocal cords- the manifestation of "gay accent" is probably coincidental in his case. I've eliminated my gay accent fairly easy cause it only came about when I came out of the closet. I'm actually curious about how your friend's voice sounds. it may not be spot on with the stereotype.

I just noticed you made a video. Thank you for making it. I too went through a small period where I posted all kinds of gay icons and things on my myspace. I quickly realized I should just be myself and who I am.

@StraightActingGayGuy Ya, I do have some gay stuff on a profile somewhere but I put it up more so for the artistic quality so it still qualifies as me-ish. BTW, I can't seem to find the reply with video thing.
