In then end though, Jeff's ego got him "let go" from this trio. Too bad it was a good period for him. THE bass player today for me (post Jaco of course) is Hadrien Feraud
John sounded best with either Kai Eckhardt or DiPiazza in this trio IMO.

those were the good years for Berlin.

Sounds like his guitar is out of tune

He is sickeningly good.

Also saw them at Glasgow in July 88. My first concert aged 17 taped the gig on a Walkman. I came to see McLaughlin, who was great but the real surprise was the other two. Berlin was magnificent, I remember some guy in the crowd shouting out to turn up the bass. Gurtu was also amazing, sat on the floor he sounded like a proper drummer at times, his tala talk with McLaughlin and his solo blew everyone away. Was disappointed when the Live at Royal Festival album came out in 89 without Berlin

I think that I speak for many: it sure would be amazing for this trio to get back together. These performances are breathtaking! Thank you.

3:57 Cannonball Adderley's Marabi love it!

I saw this trio summer of 88 in Manchester. Never heard them since in that combination. Thanks. For the record, the concert was excellent and J Berln stole the show that night.

I saw them at the Corn Exchange... Berlin was great as were the other two... Shame it didn't last... Was it Berlin's personal problems made him tough to work with?

@visog Thanks for your comment. It did not last for a number of reasons but John and Jeff are good friends now.
