@SCMotionPictureFilms - Not to give anything away, but doesn't it almost sound like smashing a small baggie filled with Fritos? ;)

It was designed on purpose to be over-engineered. What I'd like to know is what are the three solenoid looking things inside along the side? If they are valves for the cylinder I do not know why they would need three?
The linkage of the cylinder to the bar is tight! Like the use of nylon web. An AC solenoid would have achieved similar results.
The laser is fo sho. It uses an ultrasonic movement detector me thinks.

@biodot88 - On the solenoids, one is used to preload the system with air (activating the gauge & swish sound), the second is for the pneumatic hammer actuator, and the third is for releasing the air on the hammer actuator to return it to the up position. We could have used fewer solenoids, but we didn't have room for a larger multi-port solenoid to handle the air release.
We used the ultrasonic detector over a cheaper infrared (PIR) device since our fake mouse didn't put off any heat.
