I think the whole "awkwardness" thing came from the idea that not fitting in is somehow symbolic of being someone being inocent or not conforming just to fit in with me and you and everyone we know we know. This absurd idea that a surprising amount of indie movies try to use in which they try convey personality simply by enhancing a person's quirks and giving them an offbeat wardrobe and lifestyle is really obnoxious and just a plain turn off in my opnion.
Support indie, not the indie look...

@Gmancrap I agree. I like the idea of these films being inexpensive and easy to make. I DON'T like the idea of sappy (and forced) awkwardness going hand in hand with independent film making. You can make slice of life crap a little more dynamic than just a bunch of hipster prattle.

It's pretentious and boring. I wish people would make films about thing other then quirky, middle class, white kids who fall in love.

Aren't these all just generic, quirky indie, love films that just need to be turned up a bit because the main actors are so awkward? Hence the mumbling.
Haha, just kidding. Don't get your ironic t-shirt in a bunch. But in reality I am kinda tired of quirky love films and Mumblecore seems to be a lot of that...

@filmfanman65 agreed. This shit is f'ing wack. big thumbs up

"pop" film
the fuck is this guy talking about?

@WarriorBoy this isn't art. it's essentially those calvin klein/jordasche/guess jeans commercials from the early 90s except in color and longer than 30 seconds

seriously, this horseshit film movement is a stillbirth. much like anything done by hipsters, it is nothing more than for the sake of doing something not because it will be good, but simply doing it because they think it hasn't been done before, learning nothing from previous generations.
fuck mumblecore....
