There are times when you don't want a smooth transition between your animation keyframes. When you need a flickering light, or an earthquake; manually creating all those keyframes is painful and often looks unnatural. But in Blender 2.5, you've now got access to F Curve (formally IPO Curve) Modifiers. With the Noise Modifier, you can add noise to a curve with just a couple of keystrokes.

Check out my website for the .blend file and a detailed .pdf going through the steps covered in this tutorial.

  • is there a way to apply a noise modifier in blender 2.60 for the cam movement and then to import it to blender 2.49b? thx

  • @Brijanoslav I am not aware of a way to do that unless there is some way to convert the curve to keyframes (which may be possible). Best bet would be to ask on blenderartists, org. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

  • Interesting and Useful.

Your sense of zoom and placement of your video is quite nice.

Did you use camstudio ... camtasia or other?

The keystroke display was helpful as well.

  • @videofountain The program I use is called ScreenFlow and is only available on the Mac platform (10.5 or later). It's not exactly cheap but it's small and has a heap of features.

  • @GlennDusting no problem :D still thanks a lot

  • Thank you, this is very helpful. (I think that Blender 2.6 actually added a start- and stop-point to the Noise Modifier, so that now you can actually choose at least one pair of start- and stop-frames. Although an Empty would still be required for multiple starts and stops, such as the telephone bouncing as its ringing.)

  • i like your videos i just dont like the noise canceling function on it it makes me feel like im in an airplane

  • Very helpful, thanks
