Thanks being new to turning I thought the gouge and skew would be hard, them seemed easy to me. The diamond parting which sounds easy was the one I was having trouble with . Maybe because I was doing it WRONG. Hopefully no more smoke.

Cool, I will do that the next time I turn. I usually just do the stabbing movement you showed.
Also, Tim Yoder teaches on his program (wood turning workshop) to make a relief cut next to your parting cut so you don't bind. I have never heard of wiggling it I will have to try that to.
Thanks man

Long sleeves, buttoned at the wrist, are not really a problem, even in today's litigation happy society. Speaking from experience.

+1 for safety, but to his credit, his cuffs were buttoned.
Excellent presentation ... but wrong video for me, looking at machine shop (metal lathe) parting tools. :)

That's that weird strange "wood" material !
As a metal worker I find the stuff very difficult to work with.
For starters, it does not respond well to conventional welding and heat treating.
Trying to submerge it in a quenching tank is very difficult.
And I have yet to find a suitable electrode to do accurate e.d.m. work in "wood".
Interesting that it does not seem rust or corrode, however, one must be careful with certain kinds of insects that actually eat the "wood".
