GOGI GRANT was great - still sounds excellent ~ somehow she didn't quite make it to "super stardom" depending on how one judges something like that, but she certainly deserved even more recognition for her flawless voice.

@kennifergod Martha Tilton! Pleasant enough but not in Gogi's league. The only reason Gogi isn't a household name like Garland, Sinatra & Day was entering the Hollywood scene too late to have the boost of a musical movie career for affectionate affiliation with tunes & probably the worst handling of a talent just as big as Garland herself. No one can sing like Gogi without having the chops of a fine actress. And even Garland at her best did not have Gogi's technical skill & control

@markalson1938 Back in the 40`s and 50`s if a gal aspired to be a singer it meant she wanted to be a class act. Someone with refinement and poise. Patty Page,Doris Day, Rosemary Clooney. I often wonder how long one of today`s "entertainers" would last if she or he had to stand in front of a band and keep the audience involved based strictly upon the song and the talent. Dare I say it,Ga Ga would be Gone Gone.

@kennifergod Everyone has a perference, and Martha was a very gifted singer who made it big as a Big Band singer but never made it big on her own but that doesn't distract from the fact she had a wonderful voice. I never heard her sing this great standard that Frankie Laine made famous back in 1947 but I 'm sure she did it very well.

A peerless version of ta great standard. Gogi Grant approaches this song in a singular style and the presentation soars: the memory of a lost love are conveyed with simplicity, longing, and understated passion. The sincerity is striking and the mood indelible.

@billturek1 Gogi had the best female version of this song, it still belongs to Frankie.

@tamroyt No they don't and that's a shame Most of the young today have no idea what music should be.
