Set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, A Single Man, is the story of George Falconer, a 52 year old British college professor [Colin Firth] who is struggling to find meaning to his life after the death of his long time partner, Jim [Matthew Goode]. George dwells on the past and cannot see his future as we follow him through a single day, where a series of events and encounters, ultimately leads him to decide if there is a meaning to life after Jim. George is consoled by his closest friend Charley [Julianne Moore], a 48 year old beauty who is wrestling with her own questions about the future. A young student of Georges, Kenny [Nicholas Hoult], who is coming to terms with his true nature, stalks George as he feels in him a kindred spirit. A Single Man is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.

Is George involved in any straight scenes in this movie, if he is it kinda ruins the movie for me. My opinion, thank you.

The topic is very much en vogue of course but other than that I do not think it is a great movie, good maybe. Neither do I think C. Firth was the good choice for the leading part - he apparently could nto play a middle-aged gay professor convincingly. Matthew Goode is good, though. I did not really know him before, I will be happy to see him in other movies in future.

This is my faviorite trailer for this movie- I get why they made different ones as this could be to complex for people to understand- but it's just fantastically edited and it's a beautiful movie

Fabulous period piece. Great cinematography , actors/actresses were great very heartrending. I'm glad the sex in the movie was secondary.

awesome movie. it really got me. i got goosebumps, i cried and looked at it with an open mouth, spit was dropping. beautiful art direction, great script, amazing actors. the best movie i've seen so far 2010.
