If you'll take the motor apart and with your finger put a very light coat of red#2 tube grease from your local auto parts store you can use the fan nearly a whole season without the bearing noise. I have done hundreds of these this way.

Nice find, too bad about the bearings though. It does seem to coast down pretty good at least.

yea really, have you heard his 16 inch Kmart run?, it sound like its going to die, and a good fan like that should out live him, but he will end up killing it

I have oiled it. The bearings are already worn. The only thing I can do to try to make it quieter is balance the blades. That might get rid of the knocking noise.

Eskimo, Toastmaster, Manning Bowman, etc. were made by McGraw-Edison. The motors on these fans were made by McGraw-Edison and seem to have only been used on their fans.
