Another time I was driving on a long bridge and spotted blinking turn light on a car. Passing this car, I gestured to the driver, "your rear light blinking". He was shocked and asked how I knew he was deaf. Just sheer coincidence! But he spotted me as a deaf person, based on how I gestured to him. He explained, my gesture was too good to have come from a hearing person.
I was wrong once on a person at an airport. He was a foreigner who looked around for some information.
I was discussing this phenomenon with a Swedish leader. He jokingly said, he used a cultural trait to spot a deaf person, namely the tendency of many deafies to eat the plate or drink a glass empty (leaving nothing on the plate or in glass).
That's so true. I'm not Deaf but I studying to be an interpreter, and many times I've come into a room or a mall and I've seen somebody who wasn't talking they were just walking around, and instictively I knew that person was deaf. And I've always been right. It's crazy!!
I've never walked by someone and just known they are deaf. But theres a lot of times that i look at someone and not know they are deaf until they tell me. you cant tell by them just signing. many people have thought that i was deaf because i can sign and i dont talk much. but i am a coda.
It's all about the eyes and mannerisms! It's so cool!!! I love it! But I do have to wonder....how many of us DID walk right by each other and didn't know? Sad eh?

I can tell if a person is deaf. I can tell by their eyes and facial expressions and if they aren't talking.
