Landscape paintings by Martin Williamson, set to music by Ralph Vaughan Williams from his Symphony No 3 'Pastoral'. My 'day' job is driving trains, but my spare time (when I can!) is spent visiting beautiful and historic sites around the British Isles, drawing and painting. Working in a variety of media, I try to capture the 'spirit' of a location through line, form, tone, texture and colour rather than precise detail. Smaller work is done in front of the subject, working on paper; larger work is done back in the studio, usually on stretched canvas.
I hope you enjoy my work.

  • Terrific art work and a beautiful musical piece. What kind of locos do you drive? Ever drive the Flying Scotsman? Is it still up and running?

  • @Broadsidejohn Thank you very much! Actually I don't drive locos - I'm passenger only, so it's all multiple units these days. I drive classes 142, 144, 150, 153, 158, 321, 322 and 333. Never driven a steamer, but as far as I know the Scotsman is still in running order!

  • Beautiful paintings set to great music.

  • @yourforte How very kind of you - thank you! I would love to set some paintings to some of your own beautiful and original compositions... :-)

  • Brilliant Martin...gave great pleasure. This is also on my "things to do " but so far have not got the music to attach to the pics...watch this space. Ooops ironing to do!!!! Just fab. Sylvia.

  • @spitspot0 Oh thank you Sylvia! :-)

  • Outstanding work - you have a rare eye and some of those pieces were stunning, very literally. Thanks for posting this.
