Iranian youngster makes impressive World Cup debut
Anastasi says poise carried Poland to victory
Tokyo, Japan, December 2, 2011 - Press conference match Poland vs. Italy
Poland coach Andrea Anastasi: "Today is a special day for us, not just because of the victory. We didn't lose our focus. We continued to push and finally we were able to win. We had problems with our receptions the first two sets. Brazil (next opponent) is the best team in the world. They have been the best in the past years".
Italy coach Mauro Berruto: "The explanation is not in the numbers (statistics). They were very close. They were better than us in the key moments. Such matches are part of the long process of forming the team. The start of the fourth set was important. We missed several serves. We had four or five mistakes in the first 15 points. Our goal is always to win matches. We don't worry about what we can't control".
Poland captain Pawel Zagumny: "We are really glad that we won that game. It was a difficult match for us. We were losing 2-0 and came back. Now we have to focus on our next game with Brazil".
Italy player Ivan Zaytsev: "We are disappointed. It was a real match. Played like a real volleyball match. Everybody was consistent. They made some changes in the third set, bringing in (Michal) Ruciak and (Jakub) Jarosz, that gave them some ability. The important thing for the next two matches is to forget this disappointment".
Iran's Pourya Fayazi after winning as the Most Impressive Player of the match
Nagoya, Japan, November 22, 2011 -- Iran's Pourya Fayazi Damnabi made an impressive debut at the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup against European champions Serbia.
Fayazi represented Iran at the FIVB Volleyball Men's Junior World Championship in Brazil and served as the captain at the FIVB Volleyball Boy's World Championship in Argentina.
The 18-year old came in as a substitute in the second set and stayed on as a starter until the deciding set. Fayazi nailed the final point on his attack and posted an 11-point output that was key to Iran's surprise upset of the stronger Serbian side.
Teammate Mehdi Mahdavi and coach Julio Velasco are satisfied with Fayazi's debut. His performance in his first match did not only make his team proud but also justified his bright future.
