Yes the Miracles recorded it first, then Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight was third and then CCR in 1970. Marvin recorded his version before Gladys, but he released it after she released hers, thus causing the confusion about who recorded first. They were all great versions that each brought the song to a unique perspective by those individual performers.
