nero is vergil's son..it was confirmed by the manga. The place nero is living is where vergil went to. There is some background info that suggest that nero's mom is a prostitute which is why he was laughed at as a little kid. The town was full of prostitute when vergil was there.
Vergil even talked to sanctus the main antagonist of DMC4. He told him its funny that he worships sparda. And asked him who would he worship, the god or the son of the god who surpassed him.
