JCM800 2204 1982

Single Channel 50 watt JCM800 from 1982 (81 was the first year I think). I suppose it's "vintage"? I dont know.

Anyway I've got an EMG 81 through a Boss SD-1 with the level maxed, and the drive on zero for a clean boost. This thing is getting SLAMMED in the front end. But I think it sounds quite good. Just got it last week and I'm getting used to it still. It is nowhere near as compressed as the 5150 which means my playing that I thought was pretty good is actualyl horrible. The 5150 really hides mistakes compared to this thing.

Yeah the 800 has an interesting character to it. I wouldn't call it fuzzy but I know what you're talking about. It's hard for me to say it's fuzzy when it responds to picking dynamics and is as clear and unforgiving as it is because when I think of fuzzy I think of undefined. But the tone definitely has an interesting texture to it. It sounds way different with passives too.

Grainy is the word.  And it's the mic like @MrBIOSkunk said.

i think the fuzzy is the microphone and placement for this particular setup, im telling you now if you sat in front of that the last thing you would be saying is it sounds fuzzy lol!
