Drawing from her work as an artist and social innovator, Mariette Sluyter looks at the rise of the artist and the contributions that they can make to challenging our assumptions about the world around us. Too often, the stories we tell ourselves are wrong, and need to be changed.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. hi - have you heard of Burnt Thicket Theatre out of Calgary? They are doing Hockey Dad right now about family father/child relationships, and also working on a show about the sex slave trade. It seems to run along the same lines as what Mariette is talking about.
