Second in a two-part sequence: How to play the horn/guitar part in James Brown's "I Feel Good" (a 12-bar funk/blues) using a diatonic harmonica in G to play cross harp in the key of D. Your guide is the redoubtable Adam Gussow, horn man with the Harlem blues duo Satan and Adam.

To order "Blues Harmonica Secrets Revealed!, Vol. 1," a DVD that collects more than FIVE HOURS of my early YouTube videos and adds two Satan and Adam videos, check out:

  • thats the geyest instrument

  • @bubbles4troubles: You know, b4t, your comment is sort of like the pot calling the kettle black. The three favorited vids on your page include "Never Say No To Panda!!!" and "I'M LADY GAGA: ASK SHANE #25." I'm straight, sweetheart, and I do NOT understand your sense of humor. Mwah!

  • Hey Adam,

I admire you every day for all your amazing videos! How about the song TEQUILA by the The Champs? It is a very good instrumental song!

    best wishes to you!

  • Believe it or not, Sterling Magee and I used to play that tune on the street from time to time. You're right: it's a great harp instrumental. Hmmmm. I may actually work up a tab sheet and do that for Modern Blues Harmonica.....but I'll preview it here.

  • I wonder how this would sound with two harp players, one on the high G harp and one on the low? A mini horn section. Maybe even throw in a player in 3rd position on the C?

The horn part in the song would lend itself well to this I think, being so structured and consistent.

    Nice work Adam. : )

  • Excellent idea! Actually, I can imagine a contemporary equivalent of the Harmonicats, doing classic funk/pop repertoire on harps an octave apart.....
