  • Thank you for sharing your water kefir video. I just got my grains and made my 3rd batch today, so I'm very interested in how to do this!

Can you please tell me how you store your extra grains? I don't have any extras yet, but I imagine I soon will.

I'm getting read to place an Azure Standard order - are you using organic 'Turbinado Sugar (Demerara). It's only $7.95 for 5# from Azure. I want to order the correct sugar. Your grains are doing so well with it!

    Thanks!

Debbie, I don't have any extra grains because the children eat them most of the time! It seems like they double from one day to the next, so I haven't saved any. I'm not sure what the best way is to store them.

Our water kefir grains have been very happy with that sugar along with a few organic sun dried figs. We ran out of figs and tried raisins and after a while the kefir grains didn't seem to be doing so well. That was when I found out they like banana slices :O )

Thank you for sharing this information! I put raisins into my batch on Friday, now I'll know to skip those in the future. I'd been putting in 2 figs and 2 apricots (unsulphured, organic & dried).

Good tip on the banana slices! So - do you think the sugar I mentioned above is okay then to use? I'm a real Newbie with water kefir - I just started last week

Yes, that's the sugar we're using and they seem to be thriving on it! We are loving the water kefir, it's so much fun. Cassia and Chloe are pretty much taking care of the water and milk kefir. I think our experience with the milk kefir made it a little easier for us. We've been juicing organic apples, one organic lemon and a little organic ginger root and mixing it with the water kefir after the second fermentation for a tasty drink and we all love it....

  • I am just having a good time watching your daughter. You truly have a big helper with her. She does not wait to do stuff but just clean up and straighten up. It is worth so much as I am in management and this quality is hard to come by ..hahaha..Good girl... Keep up the great work...Ps..thank you for the vid..

  • @Averil07111 Thank you so much, I shared your comment with Cassia : )

That is all so good to know! I look forward to experimenting around with the flavored water kefirs. Have you seen Russel James's YT video where he adds fresh squeezed OJ and then does a second ferment? That looks good too.

I'm so excited about this and I thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions! I appreciate it so much. I love the sound of the apple, lemon and ginger juice - I'll definitely try that.
