I recorded this clip from a program years ago titled "Big Bands."

  • I have created a Wikipedia page for "John Silver". Just search for "John Silver (1938 Jimmy Dorsey song)". Do you know the source for your posted film clip? Is it a Soundie? I can add this information to the Wikipedia page. "John Silver" was also released as a V-Disc, No. 117, and 409 under the title "Long John Silver".

    Thanks for the bio.

  • "John Silver" was composed by Jimmy Dorsey and Ray Krise and was released as a Decca 78 single in 1938. The instrumental was featured on V-Disc as No. 117. The song was also re-arranged and released on a V-Disc, No. 409, under the title "Long John Silver". The instrumental was performed in the Abbott and Costello comedy film Lost in a Harem. Jimmy Dorsey is wearing a fez. Due to the strike that began in 1942, no new recordings were made so Jimmy Dorsey, like other bands, turned to the movies.
