This is a shortie, just to show that it is possible to record the sound of the audio click (metronome) in Cubase and Nuendo, if the sound card (or the audio interface) allows internal routing.

(Sorry, at the beginning I didn't realize I didn't arm the click. Click is switched on, after the "duh" moment)

Some consumer level audio cards and semi-professinal audio interfaces do not allow the signal to be routed internally like this.
If this is the case, you'll have to either:
1- connect one of your physical outputs to your physical inputs via cable or,
2- output the click/metronome sound as MIDI and use a VSTi instead.

I hope this helps someone.

PS. Please read the manuals of your audio interfaces and softwares. They are the best resources when it comes to learning a "new" thing.
PS2. The sound card used in this video is an oldie: Terratec EWX24/96.
The software is Steinberg's Nuendo 4.2.2, but same settings apply to almost all versions of Cubase after (I think) SX2.

  • Dams !!! Guys, are you scared to talk into a microphone to make a decent video ?

Just to make things easier ....

  • @sgtpeppersplanet I don't have time to set a microphone just for this little thing. It's not a rocket science.

  • yah but when you record, how can you get off the metronome ????

coz i've recorded but it sounds :S and i dont know how to take it away from the recording

  • @buenahierva I presume you didn't want to record the metronome in first place, and the clicking sound of metronome "leaks" into the recording. I think it's a matter of how you set up your sound recording interface, not a matter of signal routing in the DAW. Please read the manuals - I can't solve your hardware related issues from here.

  • thank youu so much

  • This was incredibly helpful thank you. Truth be told I tried this before, and it didn't work. I assigned a different output and input with click activated, instead of the main output, which in theory should work exactly the same way, only it didn't. For some reason, I overlooked the obvious, and using the main output really did work.

    Thank you ilterocktive!

  • I honestly could have sworn that there used to be a way to have the click exoort along with an audio mixdown cuz you used to be able to make the audio click show up as a track on the end of the mixer but seemingly you cant do that anymore for some reason. Bloddy annoying to have to go through this extra step likes.

  • how do i obtain a metronome sound like that.. i use reaper and i aboslutely hate my metronome tone. i really like this one you have here.. how would i go about doing this? where can i find the sound samples

  • Dear friend, I really liked this video, I'm willing to make some guide for recording drums, and would like to export the click / metrometro of cBase too. I have a board of preson FireStudio, I think she does this internal routing, but I'm not hitting, oh ja and looked at the manual, but not hit, can you help me. I speak of Brazil / Maceió-AL

  • Hi, nice... I don't have Cubase, would you mind to record a 120bpm Loop in Wav and send me (us) the file? Thanks!!
