No that's not MC Lyte, that's Sha Cage, Priestess of the Word, with her cohort, e.g. bailey. The commercial is part of a series created by Target, highlighting different disciplines of art. This spot highlighted spoken word + illustration. Blown away by their audition, Target asked e.g. bailey and Sha Cage to co-write and perform the text. Directed, designed, animated by Will Campbell and Will Johnson at Superfad; and produced by Minneapolis' Catalyst Studios, and Barth Ward. Music by Modern Music, also of MN. Check out their pages: myspace.com/shacage. myspace.com/egbailey
The spot was created for a video installation for Victory Park in Dallas, Texas; four independently moving screens comprise to make one large canvas in the plaza.
The commercial premiered on BET's Hip Hop Awards, and has been featured on MTV, VH1, MTV 2, CBS, CW, Univision and other networks and live installations nationally and internationally.
