9 weeks of WHAT?

Is this it?

Parade-ground security guards?

A taxpayer-funded drill team?

My USMC boot camp was 13 weeks in 1981--and not much better than this crap. Are we going to wear loop slings and cut off the circulation in our arms as infantry anywhere in war? At least at Parris Island they snapped-in and dry-fired on grass; at Pendleton it was on concrete. Blind assembly and disassembly on the reliable, gas piston M14 was good--but we don't do this for the M16 whose dirty gas system might actually require it. That's the only good, realistic thing you can see done in this pathetic documentation of 1960s USMC recruit training.

Gomer Pyle would be better prepared for Vietnam than this. Too bad we didn't send him instead of the tragic gullible lemmings who died by the thousands—worse USMC casualties than even at the hands of the weak Japanese in WW2--where the U.S. Army did the majority of the fighting. Giving the USMC its own areas to be responsible for, always ends up in disasters. They couldn't secure I Corps in Vietnam and they couldn't get to east Baghdad on time against mere Iraqi rear guards. They want out of Iraq today like they wanted out of Vietnam in '69 when they couldn't hack the weak enemy they faced there. We should disband this clusterfuck of phonies.

  • i am a marine and every video you have i have watched and honestly i tried to be more proficient in what i do...i try to teach my new guys the right way of doing things...and i get yelled at for not screaming at them or doing outrageous stupid things...we're stuck over here doing pre Madonna shit...and its like...these guys are going to go fight a war...lets train on that...and i get sent to the top guy and he yells at me...and then they pump them with false history..when we should be training.

  • YOU are the real professional and hero we should be thanking and helping out in any way we can. Message us and maybe we can help. I have been in your situation. I salute you, hard-charger!

  • so how though and long does the training have to be to make a real soldier

  • EXACTLY.

My point is that in the USMC we always seem to look back to boot camp as the ideal when its actually just a (needless) initiation rite with no tactical merit.

  • dude, i do agree with you. I'm just commenting on the things they do in boot camp. I think it's necessary in boot camp to do all the things they do. However, I do not agree with the methods they use in the fleet for training. Marines are not capable of thinking on their own because the higher ups fuck it up. I'd hear "take initiative, but don't do anything unless you were told to." does that make sense???

  • I see your point. I guess I do have to agree. I've seen lots of Marines who are in major denial when you speak the truth. The method they use to train would only be good for conventional warfare where lots of body would be wasted and they just want you to charge at your enemy w/out thinking too much.

  • TOTAL MINDLESS LEMMING CRAP THAT RESULTS IN BATTLEFIELD DEFEATS.

The "why" you state is WRONG.

The modern, non-linear battlefield is too lethal to have humans play stupid robots on-a-digital-string to incompetent egomaniac tyrants. Study the WW2 German Army, the IDF and the British Army today...they teach their people to THINK not be stupid.

  • 13 weeks of stupid barracks games means even more casualties and battle defeats. Look at the heavy losses the unprepared marines are suffering now in southern Afghanistan.

  • It used to be 9 weeks, now it's 13 weeks of hell! USMC # 1 Oorah!

  • there's a reason why everything is done. Field training comes later. It's called "BASIC" training because they teach the very BASIC. They yell and scream to simulate the environment that they'll be working in, where it is chaotic and disoriented and still be able to function like (combat). they practice drill for a leader having total control over his unit and also drill practices discipline and instant obedience to orders for the troops. Everything else comes later you probably don't see.

  • then when i say that the army actually had the greatest amphibious assault ever...Everyone has a fuckin heart attack...then when i start breaking down our history and actually talk about the army and how we can learn from there tactics and so on...then i just set off an IED under me and everyone hates me...its fuckin bullshit...

  • then we do useless training...that completely outdated...and i teach them the common sense way...and then i get chewed out for it...marines are a bunch of phonies...and so into themselves its not even funny...

  • True, the depiction in "Full Metal Jacket" is more accurate. However, you don't defeat the VC/NVA by yelling and screaming; which is why this video is so important--barracks games do not produce fieldcraft skilled, winning warriors

  • LOL...this sure wasn't like my time at the Island. I was called 14 different profane names before I even got off the bus.
