  • I spent many a night listening to Paddy at the Century club in Falmouth , Mass. He is the master of the Irish ballad. His many songs express themes from the plight of migrant workers to unrequited love. All beautifully done. I hope someone has made him as happy as he has made we who listen

  • I love this song, but I don't know about what is this song.I'm from Bosnia and don't know Ireland history. Please, anyone who can gave me more info for this song and song Ride on.Thanks

  • Love this song p reilly legend

  • @CEEWorldwide In the last verse he hears the cock crowing and wakes up and remembers he's an old man in California, not a young man in Ireland. Very sad. Ride On. I'm not sure anyone knows what it's about, but a good song. It was written by JIMMY McCARTHY, (give the man some credit), so maybe he could enlighten you.

  • I saw Paddy perform 3 times and count them as highlights of my entire life. His voice is spectacular. I also met him and got a kiss on the cheek :)

  • @iamcinderella1 u need to go back to school and re-learn ur maths lol

  • @neckozeusa

The song Spancil Hill is about an irishman who goes seeking his fortune in the California goldrush, and who in his dreams remembers his life in Ireland. Ride On is a song by another Irish balladeer called Christy Moore. Ride On is a song that can invoke different veiws in different people, lost love, the passing of a loved one, it is a song that is haunting in melody and lyrics.

  • I prefer paddy reillys version, it's your own preference really

  • Mel Gibson in the simpsons looks like him

  • @Ravbo1 Have to agree, Jim McCann can't be beaten at Spancil Hill but Paddy runs him a close second. Both guys give their all when singing.

  • Poor Eamon! Wresting that capo!

  • Please listen to Jim McCann and The Dubliners - many time better as this copy singers version
