Aviation Pioneer/Hero Felikso Vaitkaus American Lithuanian

British Movietone Newsreel clip from 1935 .Lithuanian/American solo transatlantic flight by Felikso Vaitkaus . He bravely made it to Ireland and crash landed in Ballinrobe . Mayo . I believe there is now a fitting memorial to him there.My father and his classmates were aged ten when this all happened in his home town and he remebered it well. I understand the intrepid aviatrix Lady Heath flew out to see for herself a few days later and also crash landed!

I live in Ballinrobe where is his memorial!?

The memorial is a 'plaque'close to 'The Green' and three trees planted in the field in Cloongowla where the landing took place. There are several news items from 0ctober 2007 covering the event which can be searched. I hope this helps ; Unfortunately I have not seen the memorial personally as I live in London.
