This is how I usually edit my photos in Photoshop CS3--I have CS5 now actually. I just play around with adjustment layers and see what looks good (that's why you'll see me go through almost all of the blending modes and that's because every photo of mine responds to the blending modes differently!) :)
Sometimes I create more than one edit of the same photo because I like both edits. So on my dA page I usually have like Title I and Title II+. There were two versions of this photo, the first was the result of this video then I went back and turned off some layers for what resulted at 6:32.
