My interpretation is that the fighting scenes are physical representations of the downward spiral of the relationship that is ending in the song (notice how the fighting gets more intense toward the end). It is as if the lovers mentioned are striking at each other like the fighters.

To some extent, it is actually dubstep. Most of the song has instrumentals, but during the chorus it does have the classic "wub wub" like in many dubstep songs.
